I’m not naturally full of great ideas. I love to look at other peoples work and find it fascinating where their ideas came from.

I sat in my room yesterday with all my ‘stuff’ out trying to think what to make. The best I came up with was these key rings. The idea was for them to look rustic, I’m unsure if the just look ‘tatty’?

I then sat there going through my fabrics and decided to embark on another quilt, which it haven’t finished yet, but here is how far I’ve got. I’m working on the same idea as my cat quilt, but with different fabrics. I think the cute animal squares are great. I intend on adding some other appliqués to it to jazz it up..awaiting great idea!

I have no idea what to do with it when I’ve finished it though. I’m sure it’ll find a home somewhere.

One step forward…two steps back!!

and a silent scream….

so….after the fantastic help I received from my last post and the cryptic code of row 9 of my crochet flowered square.  I successfully managed to decipher the code with the help of a simple full stop added to the pattern. To my amazement, it all became clear.

Now, to my absolute horror, I have now discovered upon completing said “row 9” that I have made a huge error on row 8 !!! Or in fact, any of the rows from 1-8.  I have one too many petals to my flower, making it now very NOT square.  I have to start again…From number one…silly, stupid me! I so frustrated. Image

My only saving grace is that hopefully I can use the flower as a single appliqué on something else, where my extra petal won’t be noticed.

How frustrating! I’m not going to let this hamper my crochet curiosity though..I will plough on..I will not be beaten by this !!

Thank you for your help 🙂

The Cryptic Crochet Code

I am trying to brush up on my crochet and trying to jazz up my granny square abilities. I have a few crochet books, one of which my mum gave me. I found a great pattern for a lovely rose square, I really want to set this in a cushion.

Now..having suprised myself by actually managing to crochet the rose insert, I am now so frustrated as the rest of the pattern, from round 9 appears to be in a language unknown to me!!  I’m desperate to finish this off and accomplish this square as I love it!!

Why wasn’t I born with a natural understanding of this secret crochet code!!! …… So frustrating!!!

Mixed feelings.

Today was my first ‘sale’. It was held at a Christmas fete and I’m not sure my audience was what I had anticipated.

I anxiously arrived and set out my stall with my mum, her stall looked fab with all of her knitted items. I felt a bit bulky and out of place.

I sold 9 of my pillows and had an array of compliments for my designs and selection. I haven’t set out to make a living from my makes, if anything I thought selling anything would be a bonus. So on the whole I’m pleased, but I feel that I should’ve done better. I shall try another one next year with a more ‘crafty’ theme and hopefully have a bit more luck.

Regardless…i a great day out with my mum and really enjoyed it 🙂

The stash!!

So I’ve been busy sewing but not so busy blogging. I’ve been spending the last few weeks sewing more pillows ready for the Christmas fete on Saturday. It wasn’t until I got them all out this morning to see how many inserts I needed to buy that I realised just how many I’ve got.

I went to a little vintage fete yesterday for inspiration, there are some very talented people around, i must say I’m a little worried that my pillows will be a flop. But it’s got to be worth a go hey?

Here is the collection:

Birmingham NEC craft exhibition.

Oooooo…what a day 🙂

Me and my mum have spent the day looking around the craft exhibition! It was huge..so many stalls..so much to buy..so much money spent 🙂 I have had an amazing time and can’t wait to get stuck into some more cushion making this weekend ready for the christmas fayre I’m doing with my mum at the end of the month.

Anyone else going or have been to the show?

Sunday Makes

I was determined to get some more makes finished this weekend and to take time out from the usual weekend chores and get some selfish time. (Although whilst making these, I managed 3 loads of washing and got them all dry, multitasking woman!) so not completely selfish time.

I hate to mention the word, but it will soon be Christmas ! As the fete I’m doing with my mum at the end of November I thought I could make the odd festive thing. So sticking to what I seem to enjoy most, I made this little festive pillow.

Using a range of different fabrics from my stash, it turned out ok. I’m happy with it 🙂

Then for my second make today, I rustled up this pencil case pouch to put my bits and bobs in. Like I don’t have enough to do, a full time job, a home and family to run, a strenuous gym schedule, I am also doing an online nutrition course. Which I somehow manage to fit in! Hence the stationary, hence the pencil case. I used my material I had left over from my sewing machine cover I made, so I can combine my two new hobbies together!

Then finally whilst I’m relaxing this evening, I’m working on some more crochet squares for another project.
